Bill Ayers On Patriotism (July 2006)

Obamaflag

Remarkable:

On this July 4, we would do well to renounce nationalism and all its symbols: its flags, its pledges of allegiance, its anthems, its insistence in song that God must single out America to be blessed.

Is not nationalism—that devotion to a flag, an anthem, a boundary so fierce it engenders mass murder—one of the great evils of our time, along with racism, along with religious hatred?

Patriotism is perhaps the single concept in greatest need of being subjected to intense scrutiny and questioning in our country today.

A reader asks if we should be screen-capping these Ayers quotes. If Ayers is so unapologetic about his terrorism, I think we can safely bet he won't scrub his site. Ego.

UPDATE: Hello again, morons and Driscoll readers. Should the urge hit, be advised comments on Ayers' narcissistic shrine to Unrepentancy are, of course, moderated.
