Since it was reported back in early October --- at the height of the Quaylization of Sarah Palin, I can't believe this discovery didn't get more play:
I mean, really. That's ripe for some lazy SNL writing right there --- they could have easily parlayed her doodles into at least 5 minutes of a standard, terribly unfunny 7 minute sketch.
Perhaps they avoided doodles because President-elect Obama has his own history of goofing off during Senate hearings (Obama's own doodle and CNN video below the fold):
Next in line at the federal bailout trough, Big Faith:
Focus on the Family announced this afternoon that 202 jobs will be cut companywide — more than 20 percent of its workforce. Initial reports bring the total number of remaining employees to around 950.
Ninety years ago today --- at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 --- in a railcar in the woods of Compiegne, France, western democracy prevailed over German militarism.
World War I was the first mortal challenge to the relatively young democracies of Europe, and they were saved by the heroic sacrifice of 116,516 American troops. It would not be the last time that the world's oldest democracy rescued the youngest --- and liberated millions enslaved under undemocratic tyrannies.
But democracy is not easy, and its vigilant defense even harder. For after German militarism was reborn under the Nazis and France was defeated, a seething, vengeful Hitler made sure to utterly humiliate the French:
In the very same railway carriage in which the 1918 Armistice was signed (removed from a museum building and placed on the precise spot where it was located in 1918), Hitler sat in the same chair that Marshal Ferdinand Foch had sat in when he faced the defeated German representatives.
Once the theatrical value of the original 1918 Armistice memorial was exhausted, Hitler had it razed:
The Armistice site was demolished by the Germans at Hitler's order three days later. The carriage itself was taken to Berlin as a trophy of war (where it was destroyed in 1945), along with pieces of a large stone tablet which bore the inscription (in French): HERE ON THE ELEVENTH OF NOVEMBER 1918 SUCCUMBED THE CRIMINAL PRIDE OF THE GERMAN REICH. VANQUISHED BY THE FREE PEOPLES WHICH IT TRIED TO ENSLAVE.
It took five more years, but eventually western democracy prevailed again. And such was the tremendous price of democracy's victory over the totalitarian Axis powers, Armistice Day became today's Veterans Day after World War II.
Thank you, veterans. Whether in peace or in war, your vigilant service keeps the best hope for mankind alive to fend off its next inevitable challenge. Enjoy your very special day.
The largest hog finally takes his snout out of the largest trough, resigning his chairmanship over Pork Central the Senate Appropriations Committee:
Mr. Byrd said that the time had come for new leadership, and that he would turn over the reins of the Appropriations Committee to Senator Daniel K. Inouye of Hawaii, who is next in line and who turned 84 in September. Mr. Byrd will remain a member of the committee and will continue to serve as the Senate’s president pro tempore.
...
Mr. Reid issued a statement praising the West Virginia senator who is well-known for directing untold billions in federal spending to his home state over the decades.
And then we get this standard banality:
Mr. Byrd who is serving his ninth term in the Senate, gets around the Capitol in a wheelchair, but he continues to be a formidable force and one of the most eloquent voices in the chamber, often delivering impassioned speeches that hearken to an earlier era when rhetorical flourishes were a matter of deep pride and when senators spent far more time listening to one another in person rather than monitoring floor proceedings from their office by watching C-Span.
For a man who started his campaign around the theme "Honor," it's very disappointing to see John McCain's campaign end in such a dishonorable way.
Here's a video I put together that traces the concept of honor, from McCain's very first ad by his exploratory committee, through his multiple defenses of Barack Obama --- including Rev. Wright, to Obama's own classy reciprocation, and finally to McCain's over-the-top lauding of Obama in his own concession speech.
And after all of McCain's saccharine respect for Obama, I cap it all off with a quick run-down of Palin's dirty laundry.
And so it came to pass that on Nov. 4, 2008, shortly after 11 p.m. Eastern time, the American Civil War ended, as a black man — Barack Hussein Obama — won enough electoral votes to become president of the United States.
...
This moment was necessary, for despite a century of civil rights legislation, judicial interventions and social activism — despite Brown v. Board of Education, Martin Luther King’s I-have-a-dream crusade and the 1964 Civil Rights Act — the Civil War could never truly be said to have ended until America’s white majority actually elected an African-American as president.
So as the New York Times finally announces the end of the American Civil War, we anxiously await NBC's proclamation of the end of the Iraqi civil war they breathlessly declared 2 years ago --- and stopped referring to as such just a few weeks later. Only 145 years to go!:
Ahhh, the pinnacle of pre-Surge defeatism --- hope you enjoyed that. Two months later, then-Sen. Obama introduced his infamous "Let's Surrender in Iraq" legislation.
Oh, and do note the label on the NBC video "Ex-Gen. McCaffrey discusses Iraq crisis." Dumbasses.
Obama originally promised to bankrupt an industry that profits from inflaming black stuff. But the historic election of America's first black president means we can finally say to the professional race hustling industrialists: PAID IN FULL. Now STFU. Forever.

Unlike the Left, I will never say "you're not my President." You will be. Don't mess up.
However personally distasteful the result may be, this election proves yet again the sui generis qualities of our nation. A tectonic shift in political power has once again been achieved without a shot fired. With the earlier defeat of Hillary Clinton, we avoided falling into the nepotistic trap of countless banana republics. And a socialist nobody came from nowhere to climb to the highest office in the land. Good for us.
I assume this was a local market buy, as it was interspersed among a couple of other local political ads (judges, councilmen, etc.). It was the first time I've ever seen that ad on real TV, not YouTube.
But why play it on Election Day morning in the deepest of deep red states?
While I'm not exactly in a battleground state, my Congressional district is being vacated by a retiring Blue Dog Democrat this cycle. The new Dem running for it already self-destructed with an award-winning gaffe.
My guess is the GOP Trust is betting Rev. Wright still can inflict some serious down-ticket collateral damage.
Any other redstaters seeing this ad today in your local TV market?
UPDATE (11-5-08): Did I say this too-late Wright ad would inflict down-ticket damage? Sorry, I meant Obama had long coat-tails --- Cuffy's district stays Democrat in a squeaker.
